The little black dress is one of the eternal classics. It is introduced as mandatory for every female closet by the legendary Coco Chanel. According to fashion experts, the little black dress is the shortest road to achieving elegance. Its magic is in its eternity, simplicity and unadulterated charm. It gives an impression of style and class. This is why we will not be wrong to crown the little black dress as the queen of all dresses.
There are a few rules when it comes to wearing the little black dress. They were laid down by Coco Chanel herself in the early 20s of the 20th century. According to these rules the dress has to cover the knees, it has to be clean of all embroidery or decorations and it has to be worn in combination with thin black stockings and closed shoes. As for the jewels, they have to be simple and delicate.

These rules continue to apply almost a century later, giving the little black dress the leading position among all other stylish and elegant dresses that the fashion world has come up with. Enjoy the eternal magic of the little black dress and the unique feeling of unfading elegance it is sure to give you.

The uneasy task of choosing an evening gown

Evening events are among the most romantic and exquisite in a woman’s life. Events that require a special dress code do not happen every day, which is why you should take selecting an outfit seriously. Evening gowns come in various shapes and looks and are the best means for a woman to attract attention to herself.
When choosing an evening gown, you will do well to take into consideration some of the latest fashion trends. The discrete sequin decoration has been in style for a few years now. Sequins can give a formal look even to a seemingly casual dress. Their color can either be the same as the color of fabric or it can contrast with it. Different colors of sequins can also be combined in a single dress. The best arrangement for an evening gown, however, is that of black sequins with a silvery glow on a black dress. Lighting in the evening is peculiar and gives the sequins a special shimmering charm, attracting everyone’s attention to the forms of the body wearing them. This is why they should be avoided by ladies who are not in their fittest shape.
A shiny silvery, golden or platinum dress is also a very glamorous choice. With such a gown you will look like a diamond sparkling in the dark. Shiny metallic dresses can support a very minute amount of jewelry. If you can’t help yourself, wear a ring, earrings or a few bracelets, but whatever you do, keep your neck clear of necklaces and pendants. The metallic dress is best worn without any jewelry.
A dress in pink or beige tones is also an excellent choice for a formal event. Such a dress has an exquisite, stylish look and the woman wearing it glows with soft femininity. This dress should be worn with light makeup while the hair should be arranged in a gentle feminine style. Bright attention-getting details are unnecessary. The purse and shoes should be in harmony with the dress. The best fabric for a dress like this is the soft smooth silk.

If you want to look slimmer in your evening gown, choose one with an empire waistline. The trapezoid skirt of this dress will hide wider hips and buttocks, while a deep neckline will broaden your shoulders. The high-waist dress should not be short or too wide, because this will make the woman wearing it look pregnant. When the dress has an Empire waist, this draws attention to the upper part of the body and makes you look taller. Wear high heels with such a gown.

The short-sleeved dress

Image:© withGod/ Fotolia
Short-sleeved dresses can be either formal or casual depending on their design and the fabric they are made of, but when talking about garments with short sleeves, the image that comes to mind is mostly that of the casual summer dress. It is an elegant and feminine dress very suitable for the warm summer days when it is inappropriate to show too much skin with a spaghetti strap dress or a dress with bare shoulders. In the office or the workplace many women feel the need to be elegant and stylish without being provocative and that is exactly when they can employ the use of the short-sleeved dress. It is a very modest tool for creating the charming feminine glow women are allowed to have at the office.
Dresses are basically the favorite piece of clothing for every woman and we would be happy to wear them every day. Contemporary fashion offers such a great variety that this is no longer impossible. Today we can choose between winter or summer dresses, casual or formal, sexy or modestly feminine like the short-sleeved dress.

Short-sleeved dress models are so numerous that they will easily add diversity to your wardrobe. The most popular cuts look like a long top or shirt which is slightly outspread from the waist down. The varieties for everyday use are typically made from soft natural materials that gently drape around your curves or airy materials that slide like a gentle veil around your body. The short dresses with short sleeves create a sensation of gentle, almost girlish purity. They bring memories of our childhood dresses in which we spent some of the best and most fun moments of our lives. This is how the short-sleeved dress combines a mature elegance and comfort with a beautiful simple innocence. Of course the short-sleeved dress can also be extremely sexy, especially if it accentuates on your bust or legs. You can extend the effect of such a dress by wearing shoes with very high heels.

What to keep in mind when choosing a dress

Image:© Sergey Nivens/ Fotolia
It is true that every woman wants to look beautiful and stylish even if some of them won’t admit to it. The selection of clothes and accessories has a detrimental influence on that.
Without a doubt dresses are the most spectacular of feminine clothes. This is why when the desire for beauty and elegance overtakes a woman the dress is her top choice. But this choice needs to be made with taste and knowledge. Here you will find three guidelines to consider when buying a dress.
First, when buying a dress you have to take in to account your own figureand whether the dress model you have your eye on will flatter or distort your body. Tight, clinging dresses are suitable for slim ladies only. Larger ladies should go for a dress whose skirt has more volume and ruffle. Likewise, long dresses are great for tall women while petite ladies will have to go for the mini or knee-length dresses.
The rule in fashion as in many other areas is that defects should be concealed while advantages should be highlighted. This is why if you are blessed with a large chest you should choose a dress with a more open neckline. If you are lucky enough to have a thin waist, wear a dress with a spreading skirt which is tightened at the waist with a belt.
The second important thing to think about when selecting a dress is the color. You have to choose a nuance that will go with your complexion as well as your hair and eye color. Women with pale complexions should not wear pale pastel tones, while red-headed ladies should be very careful when choosing clothes in pink, fuchsia or purple. The black dress is one of the all-time favorites for all women because it always looks elegant and stylish, but sometimes the occasion calls for a brighter, more vibrant color such as orange, yellow or bright-red. Such colors have the advantage of drawing attention.

And last but not least, the dress you select should be in sync with all the accessories you want to wear with it. If you like large jewelry or exotic accessories, you have to choose a dress with a simple clean cut. If you do not plan on wearing jewelry, you can compensate with a diverse, interesting dress with many decorative elements.

What to wear to a garden party

Image:© Eric Simard/ Fotolia
One of the best things about summer is the open-air parties. What can be better than to chat with friends, dance and enjoy a good drink under the stars?
Garden parties can have different atmosphere and settings. They can be a casual hang-out in the yard of a friend, a wedding or a formal garden event. If the party is completely casual, you can wear whatever catches your fancy.
If you have a dress code
If there is a written invitation and a certain dress code is specified in it you will have to adhere to its requirements. This should not worry you in the least. There are plenty of articles on the Internet which describe what every dress code entails. A quick search will show that sometimes there are contradictions in the instructions coming from different sources. Sometimes in interpreting the requirements of a dress code, some specialists would allow for example dark denim jeans, while others are definitely against it. Whenever such contradictions arise, it is always better to choose the classic side in order to avoid feeling uncomfortable at the event.
Often at the mention of a garden party our imagination creates an associated image of frivolous dress. As we saw above, this is not always the case. It is important to find the balance between the snobbish legalism and rigid adhering to the rules and defying the rules altogether. Regardless of what the dress code requirements are, moderation should always be a top priority. In this way whatever you decide to wear you will not feel uncomfortable or out of place.
If there is no specified dress code
If your garden party invitation does not specify a certain dress code you have more freedom of dress, but this often makes the choice harder rather than easing it. The most important thing to keep in mind is the nature of the event. You will not wear to a wedding what you would wear to a business event. The time of day the party will take place is also important. If it is during the day, then a fresh summer suit will suffice, while an evening event requires wearing a dress. The dress can be long or knee-length, in bright or gentle colors, with or without floral patterns, but definitely without needless tackiness. White pants with a fresh airy top or tunic is also a great solution.
In all cases
It is good to know that high-heels may not be the best idea for this sort of parties. Your heel may sink in the soft lawn and make your movements look awkward. Platforms or flat shoes are the tested and approved leaders for garden parties. However, they have to be elegant, not sporty, beach shoes or everyday shoes. If you do not have suitable flats or platform shoes, then it is better that you risk small heels then ruin your whole look with un-matching shoes.
It is also advisable that you bring a light jacket, especially if the party is going to be in the evening. This will keep you not only from the evening chill but will also keep biting insects at bay. It goes without saying that this jacket has to be in sync with the rest of your outfit. An airy, transparent shawl will do perfectly if you do not have a suitable jacket. And as for insect repellents, avoid spraying them all over yourself at the event. Do this at home if the product you’re using does not have a strong and distinctive smell. Make sure that you do not create a hideous combination of perfume and insect repellent.
Finally give some thought to the purse you will be using. A large, bulky purse will be somewhat cumbersome. You will need a clutch purse or better yet a purse with a long strap which will give your hands more freedom, so that you can easily hold a glass or dish, shake hands with friends or meet new people.

Whatever your decision is, once you are at the event forget about your doubts and have fun. Don’t think about what you could have worn or should have done, unless you want to spoil your evening. Enjoy your garden party, that’s what you are there for.

Popular wedding gown styles

When choosing your wedding gown, the things you should take into consideration are fashion trends, your own preferences and the dress line which will bring out the advantages of your figure. The basic lines are: Mermaid, Princess, Sheath, Empire, A-line and Ball Gown.
The A-line silhouette
It is the most popular and common dress style. The dress line resembles the letter A, tightly following the curves of the body in the upper part of it and gradually flaring from the waist down. This style is suitable for most female body types.
Image:©Roman-White/Fotolia
The Ball Gown silhouette
This style resembles the A-line but the skirt is thicker and more flamboyant and falls more freely to the ground. Usually this dress is very wide. It is suitable for brides with tight hips. Short brides should avoid this model because it will make them completely obscure.

Image:©Alena-Ozerova/Fotolia
The Mermaid or Trumpet silhouette
This dress is tight and clinging to the body all the way down to the knees (for the Mermaid line) or the middle of the hip (for the Trumpet line) where the skirt flares dramatically. This style is suitable for thin women who wish to highlight the curves of their body. It should be avoided by short women or women with pronounced hips.
The Princess silhouette
This dress model is suitable for all female body types; it resembles the A-line but instead has vertical seams which start at the shoulder or the sleeve and follow the length of the whole dress all the way to the hem. These vertical seams highlight the curves and give the body a slimmer look.

The Sheath silhouette
This is a dress model that clings tightly to the body. If you want to hide a few extra pounds or a pregnancy, this is not the style you’re looking for because it either strictly follows the curves of the body all the way from top to bottom or falls straight down from the shoulders to the hem. It is suitable only for women in good shape. This model elongates the body but can also be worn by taller women.
The Empire silhouette
A wonderful model for short women, this style has a raised waistline which is placed directly below the bust and usually continues downward with a thin skirt. The combination of a high waist with a flaring skirt gives the impression of a tall and slim figure.

How to select the perfect earrings for you

Earrings are an accessory that has been worn by both men and women throughout the ages. They are a simple and comfortable ornament which is why they have always been so popular. They accentuate the face, neck and shoulders and can be worn daily.
However, not all types of earrings are for everyone. How do you choose a model that will go with your face, then?
If you have a round face, long, thin earrings will look best on you because they will add to the optical elongation of your face. You are not doing yourself a favor by wearing either small or bulky earrings.
Women with oval face shape have no problems when picking earrings. The only condition they should keep in mind is that the size of the earrings should correspond to the size of the face.
A more angular face requires rounder models with more curvy elements. Ring, teardrop or circle shaped earrings are best for this type of face.
Experts recommend that when selecting earrings you take into consideration the following three factors: length, color and shape. You have to coordinate the length of the earring with the shape of the neckline of your outfit or the presence or lack of straps. Strapless dresses, for example, require longer earrings that would emphasize the shoulders and neck. If your dress is colorful do not wear brightly colored earrings. The opposite holds too – if you are wearing a simple, monochromatic outfit, a pair of dainty, vibrant earrings can be a beautiful accent.

The fashion for white wedding gowns comes from Greece :)

Every woman dreams of this one fateful day in her life when she is to be a bride, wear a white dress and say “Yes” to the man she loves.
Throughout the years bridal garments go through all kinds of changes. In the 15th century for example it was customary for a woman to get married in her favorite dress; there were no special requirements for wedding attire.
During the Renaissance strange new ideas were added to the gowns, such as cone-shaped headwear or small cushions depicting pregnancy. At one time Renaissance ladies got married in red dresses, but the church was quick to nip this tradition in the bud and ban the color of passion.
Altogether, women preferred colorful garments, because white was still an unconventional choice. In the times of the Baroque, golden yellow was the most popular color which symbolized purity and chastity. The following centuries endorsed the tones of pink blue and green, but white was thought of as obscure and lacking in vigor.

The white wedding dress does not gain popularity until the great discoveries of the 20th century take place. Fashion historians are of the opinion that seeing the beautiful ancient white marble statues discovered in Greece in the early 1900s has given the western world an appreciation of white, associating it with art and beauty and later, virtue and innocence. The masterpieces of ancient Hellenic sculptors are the reason why we still get married in white today and dream of the one day when we can be a goddess, revered and admired by everyone.

How to combine different jewels

Buying jewelry sets makes combining them much easier. Necklaces, earrings, rings and bracelets, which are made to be worn together, can surely save you the trouble of harmonizing different jewels yourself. Yet, sets can sometimes lose their charm, because they are too predictable and can be interpreted to mean that the person wearing them has no imagination.
If you want to make combinations with and among your jewels, you will have to keep this basic rule: similar colors, materials, models and styles go together nicely. In addition, if some aspect of the jewelry you are wearing is extravagant, then the rest of it should be simple and not battle it for attention. This will give your combination of jewels the proper accent point and will help you avoid tackiness. For example a dramatic necklace looks good enough without earrings, but it can be combined with small studs or buttons. Likewise, brave extremely long earrings should be worn without a necklace or with a delicate little necklace made of the same or similar material and sharing the same elements.
Feel free to combine silver and gold but make sure you think this combination through. For example, sparkling silver and gold chains worn together are distracting and look stylish, unlike the boring old monochromatic sets. Avoid the combination of a silver pendant and golden bracelet or vice versa. When it comes to metals, you have to rely on your own aesthetics, depending on your personal taste, eye color and financial abilities. Keep in mind that silver jewelry is seen as common and casual and is not entirely appropriate for formal occasion.

How to Be a Lady ? :D

Steps

Part One: Behaving Like a Lady

1) Make introductions. If you are talking to one person and another person approaches, introduce the person you were initially talking to the person who has just arrived.

  • In the business world, the order in which introductions are made depends on a person’s level of “importance;" in other words, on his or her level of seniority within the company. In such an example, you would first introduce the person of higher importance to the person of lesser importance, and then vice versa. [1] Remember that the client is always of the highest seniority, regardless of his or her title.
  • Add a thoughtful detail about the person you are introducing, when possible. Rather than just stating the person’s name, also introduce his or her title, or how you know this person.

2) Say please and thank you. While this may sound like an etiquette cliché, forgetting to say these things (even on accident) will not go unnoticed, and comes across as very rude.

  • Say thank you anytime somebody does you a favor, however big or small; it will show him or her that you appreciated it.
  • Always thank a host/hostess after attending a party or other special occasion at his or her home. Consider sending a “thank you” text, phone call, or email the following day.
  • Always thank people for gifts they have given you. You may want to consider writing the person a note thanking them.
  • Don’t abuse the words “please” and “thank you.” Using them excessively will devoid them of their meaning, and make you appear weak. For example, if a waiter pulls your chair out for you, unfolds your napkin, and then pours you a glass of water, then thank him/her one time at the very end of the action, rather than once after each gesture.
  • Add details when thanking others. Rather than just saying “Thanks” to a friend for talking you through an issue, say “Thank you for being so understanding. It really means a lot to me.” This will come across as more sincere.

3) Know when to say no. Being polite doesn’t mean being passive and letting others take advantage of you. It is important to learn how to politely tell people no.

  • If somebody offers you alcohol or a cigarette and you are not interested, then kindly thank the person and refuse. Giving in against your will sends the impression that you are easily impressionable.
  • Similarly, if a man is attempting to “pick you up” or is getting physically aggressive with you, then stand up for yourself and tell him to back off. If necessary, call or ask for help.

4) Educate yourself. A lady is eloquent and can carry a conversation. This requires being well-read and staying up-to-date on the current events of the world. While this doesn’t necessarily require formal education, attaining the highest possible level of education that you can will be to your benefit.

  • If you are not enrolled in school, then find alternative ways to educate yourself. Read plenty of books (both fiction and non-fiction), read the news, and attend seminars and/or discussions.
  • Thanks to the internet, most people have free access to an endless array of scholarly articles on various topics at the touch of a button.
  • Many college campuses allow people to sit in on lectures without receiving academic credits. Be sure to clear this with the institute before dropping in on classes, however.

5) Have good posture. Standing and sitting up straight are signs of a true lady. As an added bonus, having good posture is better for your back, and will help strengthen up your core! It will take some training to get used to this, especially if you are accustomed to slouching.

6) Be respectful toward others. Being a lady isn't just about looking or behaving properly on the outside; it involves being a good person on the inside.

  • When talking to another person, give him or her your undivided attention. It is polite, and will make for a more stimulating conversation for both parties.
  • Don't interrupt or talk over others.
  • Offer your help to those in need. This can be as simple an act as helping an elderly person carry his or her groceries, or a more generous act like volunteering at a homeless or animal shelter.

7) Be charming. A true lady doesn't just sit there quietly and let the world pass her by. She engages with other people, carries stimulating conversations, and is a subtle flirt.

  • If you don't know how to be charming, start off by smiling more at people when you talk to them, and complimenting people more. Make your compliments personal; for example, instead of complimenting a person's shoes, tell them that you think they have impeccable sense of fashion.

8) Don't use profanity, overeat or drink excessively. Being a lady requires having self-control and will power, and each of these activities is an example of overindulgence.

9) Be respectful when visiting others' homes. When you are a guest in somebody else's home, allow the host/hostess to tell you where to sit, where to leave your purse, whether or not to take off your shoes, and so on

  • Remember that some people are more protective over their home environment than others. Use your best judgment to determine how to behave.

10 ) Hold the door open for others. It doesn't matter whether you are a man or a woman, offering to hold the door open for other people is respectful and friendly.

11) Stay calm, cool, and collected. Avoiding lashing out at others if you are annoyed, angry, or upset. Remain poised, and handle the situation rationally and calmly. This will prevent you from doing or saying things in the heat of the moment that you will regret later.

Part Two: Dressing Like a Lady

1) Maintain your personal hygiene. This will keep you looking and smelling your best, and more importantly, prevent infections and other illnesses.

  • Shower daily. If you don't want to wash your hair everyday, then wear a shower cap and rise your body with soap and water.
  • Brush your teeth every morning and evening. Brushing in between meals can further improve the health and appearance of your teeth and gums.
  • Wear deodorant. Smelling your best is just as important as looking your best.
  • Maintain your waxing, shaving, and/or tweezing regimen. Getting rid of unwanted body hair can instantly make you look and feel more attractive and leave you with smooth, touchable skin.

2) Dress elegantly. This means dressing appropriately for the occasion, your body type, and your age. Use your best judgment to determine what clothes are most appropriate for you.

  • Don't try to squeeze into clothes that don't fit you.
  • Choose a simple dress over pants, when possible. While there’s nothing wrong with wearing pants, dresses and skirts bring out your femininity and show off your curves better than pants do.
  • Choose trousers over jeans when possible. When you do wear jeans, be sure that they are not torn or otherwise destroyed.
  • Don't wear sweatpants or tracksuits unless you are at the gym or exercising. Wearing these around all day suggest that you pay very little attention to your physical appearance.

3) Keep your clothing clean and pressed. Iron your clothes to remove any wrinkles, and be sure to wash your clothes if they are stained.

4) Don't wear excessive makeup or revealing clothing. Elegance requires minimalism; wear makeup to accentuate your beauty, not to cover it up.

    • Don't show excessive cleavage or wear bare-midriff tops. These types of revealing clothes suggest that you are not dressing for yourself, but rather, to attract men.

Tips

  • Remember that being a lady doesn't mean compromising your personal style or creativity. Don't adhere to rules or guidelines that you don't genuinely believe in.
  • Watch classic films to find inspiration for how to act like a lady.
  • Consider taking a formal etiquette training class.

How to Be Fashionable and Classically Stylish Together :)

Steps

1) Send old clothing items to the charity shop, recycle them, or just throw them out! They have no class and will do you no favours. Some things to consider throwing out would be:

  • Skirts more than five inches above your knees.
  • Heels more than three inches high.
  • Boots higher than two inches above your knee.
  • Things in fluorescent colours.
  • Things with clashing prints e.g. lime green and orange is an extreme example.
  • Crop tops and boob tubes, and tops with very low cut chests.
  • Fishnet tights with large holes.
  • Anything stained or ripped.
  • Anything you haven't worn in two years. (You might as well spring clean the wardrobe, while you're clearing it out!)

2) Now that you have done a major clean out, it's time to go shopping! Make sure you have these key pieces in your wardrobe:
  • Black/blue/brown/white trousers (all of them) to go with any top.
  • Three or more skirts, different colours.
  • Three or more jackets, different colours.
  • Many flat shoes, and two pairs with low heels.
  • One pair of shoes with a higher heel.

3) Having these quintessential items helps you stay on track whilst dressing in aclassy way. Here's the fun part: You can buy whatever fashion clothes you want, from whatever store! As long as they aren't any of the things in the first list, anyways!

4) Know that classy dressers have presentable legs. You can wear short skirts, but make sure your legs are fit to be seen if you aren't going to wear tights. That means hairless and with as few bruises as possible. It may be you don't want to shave your legs - if that's the case then don't have bare legs, as other people will see you as unseemly. Skirts with tights are fine.

5) Don't show too much skin. Bare skin is not classy, no matter how fashionable it may be. This is why you must not wear crop tops, mini shorts or miniskirts. It is not trashy to wear shorts with tights, as long as the colours don't clash and the shorts aren't too short. It is always trashy to wear crop tops. Classy people are far more reserved than that.

6) Understand that prints are very fashionable, but it's easy to go wrong. Try not to mix prints. Floral skirts should always be worn with plain tops. Printed tops should always be worn with plain trousers or skirts. And the colors have to complement each other - no pink flowery skirts with brown jackets!

7) Wear what suits you. It's useless trying to follow fashions for the sake of it. To redeem your classic, basic style, know your body shape and what colours suit your eye and hair colours. It's easy to throw together an outfit that looks great on the mannequin - but think. Is a denim waist cost really going to flatter you? Does it really go with that black flowery blouse? It may be sometimes that the overall effect of an outfit in a picture is nice, but alone the clothes don't appeal to you very much. So don't buy them!

8) Think of the classiest person you know. Let's say Audrey Hepburn. If she were around today, would she wear the outfit you're thinking of wearing? If not it's a good idea to think why, then modify your outfit to make it up to standard.

9) Being healthy and clean will help your classy appearance. Make sure you have great skin by drinking lots and using cleansing products;, use deodorants and shower or bathe daily! Body odour is not classy!
